Linear/Lateral
Developed for the Mirroring exhibition at The Lab, Dublin, Linear/Later is a 2-channel video work.
Linear presents the action of a figure walking into
and out of shot in a cyclical pattern. In contrast, Lateral presents the same
action, but rather than one looped linear action, contains multiple
instances of a similar action, existing in parallel timelines. The
timelines have been overlapped using split-screen techniques. Both
videos are seamlessly looped, giving a sense of infinity, separated
from our everyday lived timeline.
Within the Mirroring exhibition, Linear and Later are installed so that
both videos cannot be viewed simultaneously, forcing the viewer to walk
back and forth between the two, mirroring the action of the figure in
the video.
