Time and Time Again
Time
and Time Again is a 5 channel video installation, filmed in Iceland and
Ireland between 2004 and 2005. In addition to themes of Romanticism and
the Body in Space, this work plays with our expectation of medium
through these video-paintings.
At times the figure observes the landscape in an isolated
manner, but there is also a constant motion and interaction with the
landscape; a rhythm of repetition reducing the action to little more
than a gesture. Each time there is no trace left and the action starts
again at the same point in time, therefore eliminating any sense of, or
emphasis on, any real time. Yes, the viewer is aware that the action
was once an event at a specific place in a real time, but this
documented real event is now essentially frozen in time just as though
it were a single frame still image.
The videos are not
projected, but instead appear as tangeable objects. In addition to
this, the restricted colour palette and the cyclical (or lack of)
narrative places the reading of these video works closer to that of a more traditional medium, such as painting.
